Closing Conference of the European Year of People with Disabilities.
Presentation
The closing conference of the European Year for People with Disability
– instituted by the Council of the European Union with the 3.12.2001
Decision – will take place in Rome from 5th to 7th December. It
is one of the most important initiative organized by the Italian Presidency,
and it also contributes to make a summary of the experiences and good
practices carried out in the Member States within 2003 in order to fix
new targets for disability in future.
This event is organized in co-operation with the European Commission,
the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Department for Community
Affairs, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
About 500 delegates coming from the different European countries, including
Candidate ones and those connected with EFTA, will take part to the Conference.
The participants include the Ministers working on Disability themes, the
representatives of NGO at European level, social partners, delegates of
the European Parliament, academics, reporters, European and International
agency delegates, legal experts, representatives of the Advisory Committee
for disability and people who organized the European Year.
The conference will review the future and current practices underway
in the Member States and in those who will be part of the European Union.
It also will deal with three main themes:
- knowledge and getting of the rights;
- family support of people with disability;
- accessibility to everywhere for everybody.
